DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ACUPUNCUTRE AND DRY NEEDLING?*
Dry Needling is a Form of Acupuncture – Dry needling techniques originate from acupuncture and originators of dry needling identify it as acupuncture.
Training & Safety Standards – Licensed acupuncturists undergo over 1,300 hours of specialized training, including anatomy, biomedical sciences, and clinical practice. In contrast, Dry needling requires as little as 12–27 hours of coursework, increasing the safety risk.
Scientific & Anatomical Basis – Acupuncture is rooted in anatomy, physiology, and scientific research, not just energy theory. Studies confirm its effectiveness, with dry needling often borrowing evidence from acupuncture research.
Trigger Points & Needling Depth – Around 95% of trigger points used in dry needling correspond to traditional acupuncture points, which have been treated for over 2,000 years. Acupuncture also includes deep needling techniques, contrary to the claim that only dry needling does.
